The times change,

but the Zallinger remains!

What has happened so far

The Zallinger has a turbulent history, which began some 160 years ago. Then the idyllic Alpine meadow was called "Sassegg", from the Ladin-Bajuwaric and meant something like "the rise on the big rock" (that is on the Sasso Piatto - the flat rock). After Karl von Zallinger-Stillendorf from Bolzano, who came originally from southern Bavaria, acquired the Alpine meadow in 1854, the new name of Zallinger Alm quickly became established. It was he also, who built our little church and celebrated its consecration in 1858. Since then, the Zallinger has changed owners many times, but the name has remained. In 1933 ownership in the Alpine meadow passed to Anton Schenk, who later became Mayor of Laion. In 1968 his daughter, Zita inherited it and in the same year she married Hans Schenk-Trojer. After the death of his wife Hans continued to run the business, from the end of 1990 with the help of his second wife, Luisa Schieder from Castelrotto. In the 1990's the Zallinger was renovated from the ground upwards, in order better to meet the requirements of the guests. In 2010 Hans died and left a huge void. His wife Luisa an her nephew Markus now have great delight in running the Zallinger and always do their very best to care for their guests with the greatest cordiality.

Your word in God's ear

You think it's pure joy at Zallinger? Then you can express your thanks to God in the little Zallinger church. The simple Neo-Gothic chapel has stood next to our mountain house since 1857. One year after it was built its consecration to the Immaculate Virgin Mary was celebrated. Today in consequence of various restoration projects - the latest 10 years ago - the little Zallinger church is resplendent in full glory. There could hardly be a lovelier place for Sunday worship in the summer!

There is the excitement of animals and nature!

That which adults like (hiking, lounging, gazing at the view and so on) does not necessarily have any attraction for the little ones. What a good thing it is that you have come to Zallinger with your children. Here we have all sorts of things for little beings to experience. Their eyes light up when they look across the meadow and see our Haflinger horses grazing with their foals and our pygmy goats. Not to mention that the little ones may stroke and hold the animals. And things really get going on our children's playground. There, the quietest children become boisterous adventurers - and that's just as it should be!
"On the meadow it is so fine,
you will not want to go home again"

Where do the most beautiful
blondes come from?

From Zallinger, of course! Your hostess Luisa is a passionate breeder of Haflinger horses and lives her passion to her heart's content on our Alpine meadow. Our Haflinger stud farm has been in existence for 40 years now. Some of our horses have already had huge success at various breeding events and exhibitions, of which we are – with respect – really proud!
